This version explains equality and diversity obligations as they apply within law firms.

SRA Code of Conduct IB 2.2 says law firms should provide their people with “training and information about complying with equality and diversity requirements”.  Chapter 2 of the Code of Conduct lays down detailed equality and diversity obligations for lawyers and their firms.

Our special version of our equality and diversity training explains your obligations as they apply in law firms, including:

  • obligations under the Equality Act
  • obligations under the SRA Code of Conduct
  • practical issues that can arise when dealing with clients  (e.g. how to handle offensive or racist behaviour by clients, and when refusing to act for a client may be a breach of the Act)
  • dealing with counsel and other third parties
  • recruiting trainees and others
  • managing people in the context of a law firm.

It includes detailed scenarios and exercises, and is interactive.

A separate quiz verifies that users have understood.

Can be used for both group and individual training.

You can train everyone in your firm, including support staff, for just one subscription.

A discount applies if you subscribe to both the Unconscious Bias and Equality and Diversity courses.

Your subscription gives you two versions of the training.  You choose who does which:

Version 1: for all staff.  This is the standard version, suitable for anyone.  CPD accredited by the SRA (30 minutes, including quiz).

Version 2: for those involved in management and recruitment.  This goes into more detail on the issues that arise when recruiting, managing people, or setting policy.  Suitable for partners and other senior members of staff.  Provides 45 minutes’ CPD credit, including the quiz.

SRA Code of Conduct (Code, IB 2.1) requires your firm to have an equality and diversity policy which meets various detailed requirements.

So at no extra charge we provide you with a precedent.  It is fully annotated to help you swiftly adapt it to the circumstances of your firm.

Also included in the service, we will alert subscriber firms to changes in equality law and regulation by e-mail. We will also e-mail you revisions to the precedent policy as necessary.
